How to know when the Spirit is hovering

Embracing the move of God in our lives is important when we cannot yet see what God has in store for us.
Genesis 1:2 (NKJV)
"The earth was without form and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters."
We may find ourselves lost in the direction we ought to take and do not know where we are going. Our future seems unformed and uncertain. But God has the best for us.
From Genesis 1:1–19 we learn 5 steps to recognize that the Spirit is hovering over us amidst the darkness. When He hovers, He is about to create something out of nothing.
1. Vision (Light)
Genesis 1:3 (NKJV)
"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light."
It is only through light that we can see what is really happening in our lives. While God may be pleased with the number of people who decided to give their lives to Jesus, He is more concerned about the making of disciples than of decisions.
We may have something good now, but God has something better for us. And the best is yet to come. Others might not see it, but God will give us light to see. We must first see the light before we can be confident that God is in it.
2. Separation
Genesis 1:4–7 (NKJV)
"4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. 6 Then God said, 'Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.' 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so."
Are we willing to separate from the ‘good’ into the ‘better’? In all that God does, He does not always need to make sense to us. God always teaches us that for us to move forward there must be a cutting of the ‘umbilical cord’. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to separate ourselves from the ‘current’ into the ‘new’.
God often gives us a compass to guide us instead of a map so that we can fully put our trust in Him. We walk by faith, not by sight.
3. Confirmation (Heaven)
Genesis 1:8 (NKJV)
"And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day."
Sometimes we need a little piece of heaven to confirm that something is from the Lord. Even if we do not know who Mama is, just know our ‘Papa’ in heaven and we will be fine.
God will assure us of something that He has planned all along by way of confirming it so that He gets all the glory because that piece of event can never happen without Him. It would have been impossible without God’s hand in it.
4. Provision
Genesis 1:9–13 (NKJV)
"9 Then God said, 'Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear'; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth'; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day."
God is pro-vision. When He gives us a vision, He backs it up. When we are doubtful, He knows. He knows everything that is going behind closed doors. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself. He will come through again and again.
5. Administration
Genesis 1:14–19 (NKJV)
"14 Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth'; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day."
God created the fruit trees before the Sun. God does not need the Sun to create the fruit trees. God does not need the ‘sun’ to create ‘fruit trees’ in our lives either.
We may have a great vision, but the lack of administration will fail the overall vision in the end. We need to administer and manage the work that comes with the vision well as good stewards. Be like a Joseph and a Daniel in the Bible.
Conclusion
We need to keep these 5 steps in order: Vision, Separation, Confirmation, Provision, and Administration. We sometimes fail to experience a breakthrough because we have reversed the order of the steps.
