Deepening Your Relationship with Christ

Matthew 11:28–30 (KJV): “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
We live in times and seasons. When God grants us the grace of times and seasons, He expects us to seize the opportunity to do what pleases Him. It is essential to value the times and seasons He has given us to share the saving grace of Jesus with others.
John 9:4 (KJV): “I must work the works of Him that sent Me while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.”
So, how can we deepen our relationship with our Maker?
Be Rooted and Grounded in God’s Love
To be rooted and grounded means allowing our roots to deepen to prevent us from falling. The stronger the roots, the more fruit we can produce.
Ephesians 3:16–18 (KJV): “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height.”
We know He loves us because the Word of God says so. For this reason, we need a deep understanding of the living words of God. When we read His Word, the Holy Spirit will illuminate the truth to us, giving us wisdom and understanding.
John 8:32 (KJV): “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
God’s love is profound, reaching into the depths of every aspect of our lives. Understanding the vastness of Christ’s love for us is crucial.
Romans 8:38–39 (KJV): “For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
God leads us through various stages of life, and as we journey, we need a deeper understanding of His call on our lives. It is a long process of discovery where God also takes us into a deeper relationship with Him.
Hebrews 12:1–2 (KJV): “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Make Sacrifices
There is a process of cleansing before we can present ourselves as a living sacrifice to the Lord. He gave us the Holy Spirit to teach us all things, and our minds need to be renewed so we no longer operate in the flesh. A close relationship with the Holy Spirit is necessary.
Romans 12:1–2 (KJV): “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our lives is not a choice; it is essential. We must remain humble and hungry for Him to work in us.
John 14:26 (KJV): “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
The Great Commission, Commandment, and Compassion
If we are well connected to the Holy Spirit, He will keep the fire of the Great Commission burning for His glory alone.
Matthew 28:19–20 (KJV): “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
The Great Commandment calls us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love one another as He has loved us.
Matthew 22:37 (KJV): “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
John 13:34 (KJV): “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
The Great Compassion moves us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and care for the needy. We must have compassion for lost souls.
Matthew 25:34–36 (KJV): “Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave Me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took Me in: Naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and ye came unto Me.”
1 Timothy 2:4 (KJV): “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
Conclusion
As we reflect on the depth of our relationship with Christ, we should ask ourselves:
- Are we prepared to welcome Jesus into our lives, allowing Him to guide us as we diminish our own desires?
- Can we discern His voice amidst the noise of the world?
- Are we earnestly seeking a deeper connection with the Holy Spirit?
