A Yielded Spirit Pleases God

Texts: Romans 6:13; Luke 9:23–24; Philippians 2:5–8; Isaiah 55:8–9

Theme: A yielded spirit is one that surrenders fully to God. True power and peace come not from striving, but from surrender—allowing the Holy Spirit to lead, shape, and work through us.

1. What Does It Mean to Yield?

To yield means to surrender control—to stop resisting and allow God to take the lead. It’s not about giving up in defeat, but giving over in trust.

The preacher illustrated this with the example of a glove and a hand:

• The glove represents our life—empty, powerless, and limited on its own.
• The hand represents the Holy Spirit—when He fills and directs us, the glove becomes useful and alive with purpose.

Application: Stop striving in your own strength. Invite the Holy Spirit to “fill the glove” of your life and empower every action you take.

2. The Call to Surrender

• Romans 6:13: Yield every part of your body to God for His purpose.
• Mark 12:30: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
• Matthew 6:33: Seek first His Kingdom and righteousness.
• Luke 9:23–24: Deny yourself daily, take up your cross, and follow Him.

Surrendering to God isn’t loss—it’s gain. When we yield, we trade anxiety for peace, fear for faith, and self-will for divine strength.

Application: Surrender daily, not just during crises. Let every area of your life—your work, relationships, and decisions—be submitted to God.

3. The Process of Yielding

Yielding is often painful because it involves being “crushed” like olives before oil can flow. The preacher shared experiences of rejection, misunderstanding, and brokenness—moments that God used to produce deeper maturity and intimacy with Him.

In the crushing, God is refining, not punishing. What feels like pressure may actually be preparation.

Application: When you feel crushed or forgotten, remember—God is not absent. He’s molding you for greater purpose and authority.

4. Why Must We Yield?

1. The flesh resists God’s Spirit (Galatians 5:17) – The flesh wants control, but the Spirit brings freedom.
2. God’s power is already within us (2 Peter 1:3–4; Philippians 2:12–13) – Yielding activates divine power that’s already present.
3. God’s plans are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8–9) – His ways may seem unclear, but they always lead to good.

Application: Stop wrestling with God for control. Trust that His ways, though mysterious, are always best for your growth and destiny.

5. The Example of Jesus

• Philippians 2:5–8: Jesus, though equal with God, emptied Himself and became obedient to death.
• Luke 22:42: “Not My will, but Yours be done.”
• Jesus demonstrated that yielding is not weakness—it is the pathway to power, authority, and victory.

Application: To follow Christ is to yield like Christ. True discipleship begins where our will ends and His will begins.

6. How to Cultivate a Yielded Spirit

1. Pray and commune daily – Surrender begins in the secret place.
2. Meditate on Scripture – Let God’s Word renew your mind (Romans 12:2).
3. Practice daily obedience – Yielding isn’t one moment of surrender; it’s a lifestyle of “yes” to God.
4. Trust the process – God’s crushing seasons prepare you for His calling.

Application: Start each day with this prayer: “Lord, I yield my plans, thoughts, and desires to You. Have Your way in me today.”

7. The Reward of a Yielded Spirit

• You experience peace that surpasses understanding.
• You gain discernment to hear God’s voice clearly.
• You live with freedom—unburdened by self-effort, carried by His grace.
• You become a vessel of power, available for every good work.

Application: The greatest gift you can give God is your full surrender. When you yield completely, you become unstoppable in His purpose.
